Winter Tyres

Fitting Winter Tyres is not a vehicle modification
Chaucer Insurance recognises that some motorists may wish to fit winter tyres to their cars during the cold weather. Last winter there was much debate over this subject and whether or not winter tyres are considered a vehicle modification, which could result in an increase in insurance premium.
As an insurer, Chaucer understands that winter tyres can have a positive impact on road safety and do not charge an additional premium when customers use winter tyres, provided that they meet and are fitted in accordance with the vehicle manufacturers specifications and are in a roadworthy condition.
To reduce uncertainty, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) have produced ‘Winter Tyres – The Motor Insurance Commitment’, which Chaucer Insurance have signed up to.
For further information about The ABI Winter Tyres commitment, please refer to their website www.abi.org.uk.
